When 26-year-old Edie Bandell (left) first invited Andrea Vandenberg to her apartment for sushi, she wet her pants. “She was so nervous, she kept knocking over her water,” says Andrea, 29. “Her pants were soaked!” On the night Andrea met Edie at drag bar Crews/Tango, she had a mess of her own. While on a pee-break, her purse was swiped by a club-hopping thief. “I was supposed to watch it,” says Edie, a manager for the Radio Marketing Bureau. Andrea, who lost her passport, driver’s license, pocket PC and $1,000 cash in the robbery, “kept her cool” amidst the drama. Edie was so impressed, she added Andrea to her “friends list” on MySpace.com, a move that “made us waste a lot of time chatting online at work,” says Andrea, a senior public relations consultant.When Edie isn’t reading “geeky political science stuff,” like Maclean’smagazine, she joins athletic Andrea in taking hip-hop class, where they’re currently mastering “Justin Timberlake-style dance moves.” But on the night the ladies took their grooves to fly nightclub for a friend’s birthday party, Edie showed Andrea a move of her own. Dancing amidst puddles of “topless, sweaty men,” she tossed her top and went strictly bra. “It was disgusting,” says Edie. “But liberating.”
