TK & Shanna - 3 years
“I don’t fold my socks”

When Shanna Kelly (right) moved to Toronto, a gay guy told her that “all the chicks play pool.” She protests, “That’s a generalization!” But Shanna went on to meet her girlfriend, DJ:TK, (wait for it) in the Crews pool league. Ideal pool partners, they made for one sharky duo, but things went beyond good sportsmanship when TK asked Shanna to come by and “fix her computer.” “It was a faker!” TK says diabolically. It worked. The couple now lives and works together, TK’s turntables sitting right beside Shanna’s printing equipment for her graphics company. They also work together on the new women’s scene site queergirl.ca and the women’s club night at 5ive, Girl5ive. As girlfriends and co-workers, they’re constantly distracting each other and getting on each other’s nerves. TK’s scattered socks are one point of contention. “I don’t fold my socks,” TK admits. “They’re crazy critters. They get all over the house.” But they’ve vowed to have an “open” relationship. “When we have a problem, we don’t just say, ‘Fucking bitch,’ turn around and leave the room,” says Shanna. “Whether it needs to be screamed back and forth or talked out, it has to be out there.” - Ryan Porter
