Saturday, May 28 marked the sixth annual Telus Day of Giving, a national campaign organized by Telus to give their employees the opportunity to give back to the communities that support them.
In addition to flipping burgers and hot dogs (which were delicious), a mighty army of lime-green-shirted Telus volunteers descended upon the 519 Church Street Community Centre and did everything from picking up trash in Cawthra Park to a bit of light landscaping. The day also marked one of the first events for the Telus Spectrum group, a newly formed resource group for queer Telus employees and their families.
“We give where we live,” says AJ Gratton, a senior Telus rep, who was proud to point out that it’s because of events like the Day of Giving that Telus became the first Canadian company to be awarded the prestigious 2010 Freeman Philanthropic Services Award for Outstanding Corporation by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
