Taking place the first weekend of May every year, at the Toronto Reference Library (789 Yonge St), the Toronto Comic Arts Festival is a gathering place for comic book nerds, graphic novel fans, artists and more.
While queer artists have always had a strong presence (I had a lovely conversation with Maurice Vellekoop last year, who is returning),
this year TCAF has truly out-gayed itself. Alison Bechdel, the writer and illustrator of
Dykes to Watch Out For and
Fun Home, will host a queer mixer at Buddies as part of the festival and will also debut her new book. There will be a queer-themed panel, and playwright Brad Fraser will interview gay erotic-comic artist Dale Lazarov.
Bring lots of money for merch, or you’ll regret it.
