“I still get the same feeling from the music as I did the first day I heard it. Goosebumps,” says Cameron Burke of In the Heights. “It’s not your traditional musical theatre: the rhythms are authentic and driving and so much fun to sing. It was a little challenging for me to get the correct dialect and pronunciation of some of the words, but it’s so beautiful when it’s done correctly. I’m finally learning how to roll those Rs.” Burke found that his background in classical, hip-hop and jazz dance prepared him well for the salsa that dominates In the Heights. “It was actually a lot of fun to learn something new and experiment with the movement. Use those hips, trust your partner, find the two, and you’ll be just fine,” he laughs. “I’m going to warn you: In the Heights is going to make Toronto shed a few layers. The band is hot, the talent is hot, the dancing is fast-paced and sensual. Not to mention the love in this show. It’s enough to make you sweat. I think a little Latin flavour will suit Toronto just fine this winter. We can’t wait to bring the fire.”
