Gay history comes alive

Where in 2013 are the great duos like Abbott and Costello, Mutt and Jeff, Thelma and Louise or Alexander and Hephaestion? If any of those names are unfamiliar, then newly minted team The History Boys are anxious to educate you. Their popular Fab column aims to take gay history and make it “fun and accessible,” says history boy Michael Lyons. “History is very sick and dirty and perverse. I like writing about it.”

The boys have been asked to take their column to the stage, so they’ve had to scheme and plot on how to “make it more than a reading,” Jeremy Willard says. “We’ll each read two of our columns; Eric Williams, who does the provocative illustrations, is going to do something, and there will be projections. It will be more than live Wikipedia.”

“There will be some pornography thrown in,” Lyons says. “There will be pornography of Jeremy.” Willard giggles but notes proudly, “When I was 16, I looked 10. It will be more than facts and better than Wikipedia or porn.” Lyons does a double take: “Wikipedia is my porn.”

The boys recently did a test run of their act at a frat house. “A very straight frat house,” Willard notes. Says Lyons, “They didn’t know what to expect. We walked in and the host said, ‘So you’re the ones doing the gay talk.’” Willard explained to the crowd that frat houses hold a hallowed spot in gay porn history, “so I invited a hot guy to bang a drum and take his shirt off. He banged the drum.”

Their upcoming gig will be a “more interactive event,” Lyons says. “There will be a Q and A and pop quizzes like ‘If you could suck the dick of any historical figure, who would it be?’” “And a dress code,” Willard adds. “It’s a sexy nerd dress code,” Lyons says. “Dress to seduce your hot teacher. And we are the hot teachers.”

Here is a video of the boys talking about their appearance and all around nerdiness:
