Coca Cola in Pact to Eliminate Fluorosis in NaivashaAll Africa Global MediaCoca-Cola and Water Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) alongside a host of local organisations in Naivasha, have commissioned the second phase of a Sh42.5 million two-year initiative to provide residents of Naivasha with access to de-fluorinated water. The project was motivated by the fact that the low income residents of Naivasha's peri-urban settlements not only suffer from inadequate water and sanitation services but also endure the health impacts of extremely high fluoride levels found naturally in the water.Young children experience gradual browning and chipping of their teeth. This condition, known as fluorosis, is a lifelong disease which gradually leads to debilitating skeletal deformities.WUSUP has been working through its network of local and regional institutions in the water sector to alleviate this menace with funding from The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation, the philanthropic arm of The Coca-Cola Company in Africa.Approximately 30,000 people have been able to access safe drinking water through the first phase of water de-fluoridation. The second phase, launched on Tuesday to coincide with World Water Day celebrations to be marked on March 21, is a scale-up of the quest to eradicate fluorosis among low income households in line with this year's World Water Day theme 'Water Cooperation'."Coca-Cola recognises that the responsibility of delivering access to clean water to communities, demands a broad-based approach involving Government, the NGO sector and Private sector companies. Therefore, the objective of our involvement in the project is to increase the number of people in the target communities who are being sustainably supplied with general purpose water and fluoride risk-free drinking water by harnessing the skills of various partners," said Patrick Pech, General Manager, Coca-Cola Sabco. Some of the local organisations involved in the project include, Vitens Evides Internatio

Las Vegas鈥?newest resident act is also one of the country鈥檚 most polarizing. Bill Maher, whose residency begins this week at The Pearl inside the Palms, makes no secret of his disdain for religion, the Republican Party or Donald Trump, and this year was famously sued by The Donald for joking that, just as Trump wants to see Obama鈥檚 birth certificate, he should have to produce a birth certificate to prove he鈥檚 not the offspring of an orangutan. Maher spoke to the Weekly about what it means to perform in Las Vegas, the future of marijuana in America 鈥?and what he thinks of Trump鈥檚 reality show. You tour all over the country. What is it about Las Vegas that made you want to establish a residency?Well, I don鈥檛 think you鈥檙e anybody in show business unless you have a presence in Las Vegas. I mean, it is the capital for live entertainment. It has been since I was a kid. You know, it鈥檚 the tradition of the Rat Pack and everybody that came after it. You can be a television personality, and that鈥檚 great, but I鈥檓 also and always have been a live entertainer, a comedian. And so you want to be a big act in Las Vegas. You want people to come and see you. Now on a practical level, it鈥檚 close to LA. You can play it many times a year. It鈥檚 the one city, unlike any other place you go to, where the audience comes to you, and also it鈥檚 a fun place. You can bring your friends for the weekend. It鈥檚 kind of a getaway. It鈥檚 an adult playland. It鈥檚 got great restaurants and fun things to do, and so, you know, if it wasn鈥檛 for the damn dryness, and hundred-million-degree weather, Christ, I could live there. You once famously went into a Real Time crowd to help throw out a somewhat scary heckler, so it鈥檚 clear you鈥檙e not intimidated by the crazies. But does the constant stream of haters ever get to you?You know, you learn to block it out. It鈥檚 funny. I think when you鈥檙e a comedian like me who, I鈥檓 not gonna lie, is somewhat polarizing to the public, you mostly鈥攍ike the president, who is also

Which probably doesn't seem like that big of a deal to you, until you remember that these Olympics are not being held in an empty field 200 miles from society. They're right smack in the middle of one of the largest, most populated cities on Earth. Which means that the giant, imposing, electrified and locked down Barrier of Death that comprises one of the most militarized borders in history, rivaling even the DMZ and the infamous Berlin Wall .runs right through your quaint little jogging path.

Purchase Plus. This is a campaign waged at the checkout line at grocery stores or other retail venues. Typically a customer is asked if he would like to add a donation to his bill. The amounts are usually low enough for most people to say yes. The store processes the money and gives it to the nonprofit with which it has partnered. Promotion of the cause is usually pretty low key, but that makes these programs easy to set up and they are quick so a business can respond to, say, a natural disaster in a timely way.
