The North American black community has always been fortunate to have fantastic leaders, artists and advocates, and doubly so with queer black people. In celebration of Black History Month, Queerty gives a fantastic overview of a number of trailblazers, including MLK’s right-hand man, Bayard Rustin, comedian Wanda Sykes and, of course, drag queen/supermodel extraordinaire RuPaul.
As far as black Canadians go, activist and singer/songwriter Faith Nolan and writer Walter Borden CM are people certainly worth mentioning, and who continue to be inspirational voices among the community.
